Good mental health is about feeling good about your life and being able to cope with problems when they happen. We call good mental health mental wellbeing.
Wellbeing is more than feeling happy, it is feeling that we are fulfilling our potential in life and that our lives are meaningful and worthwhile.
Elephant week is an opportunity for us in Guernsey to discuss and change our thinking of mental health and wellbeing. This could be through the events that are organised, arranging an event yourself or something as simple as talking to someone about mental health.
You don't have to be an expert to talk about mental health. If your friend had a broken leg or had an operation in hospital you wouldn't think twice about calling on them or picking up the phone to ask how they are. The same is true of mental health, doing the little things can make all the difference.
It's time to talk about the elephant in the room.
